Intermittent clanking

a 2001 Micra S ,, I get an intermittent clanking noise from the area of the alternator when I turn on electrical components when the engine is idling , indicators , heaters etc etc ,,, the more components I turn on ,, the more clanking I get .. Any ideas ?!
