Radiator Fan Relay Chatters Eratically

Sun 14 Dec 2014 08:35:35 PM
The relay for my radiator fan has developed a worsening problem. Not so much the relay (I think) but the ECU signal driving it.

After the engine has warmed up to normal temperature the relay starts to chatter, solenoid switching on/off rapidly and noisely. It seems the ECU signal is pulsing the relay rather than applying a sustained voltage. This can't be good for the fan either.

The problem is most apparent when I put my foot on the gas pedal and start to accelerate. As the car accelerates the fan relay starts pulsing. As soon as I take my foot off the gas it mostly stops.

Can anyone advise what the problem might be? The problem was intermittent for a long while but now happens constantly.

So after reading that, i'm not 100% sure you've changed the relay...
When it starts to chatter, yank a relay out of another socket and chuck it in its place. If it fixes it, buy a new relay. Not sure where you can buy nissan relays to be honest. I have a supplier through work, and he comes to me, so it has never been an issue. Nepean Motor Group will sort you out if you can't find them elsewhere.

Hi mate!
I think you have a lose wire connection in the engine bay.
Check the connection of the ETC sensor socket and pins for corrosion and etc.I think that the developing of the problem during acceleration is in relation with the engine moving back and forward during the
acceleration.
