Weird grinding noise when turning ignition on

Just had my car in the garage, got a new fan fitted as the old one stopped working (1999 micra). Now a new problem, as soon as I got the car back, but I want to run it by you guys before getting it back to the garage because I'm sure they caused it and I'm not sure if i trust them!

When I turn the ignition on and all the dash warning lights come on the engine management light doesnt come on straight away. Instead there is a pause, a grinding noise as the light flickers, then it comes on. The car has then struggled to start a couple of times, something that it's never done before. It's been well looked after.

Thoughts?
