brake fade and fail

one of our Micra's had its brakes fail yesterday , it seems a handbrake adjuster siezed whilst it was parked up over a week , this caused the offside rear hub to over heat and boil the brake fluid resulting in a total loss of brakes ........ my question is .. should not the split brake circuit of worked ?



no harm caused this time , but it did make wonder about the splt circuit
