Main bearing cap bolt torque?

Wed 05 Jun 2013 04:56:02 PM
Are these tension bolts like the head bolts? Anyone know what torque they should be tightened too? I followed the Haynes torque spec while checking the clearances but it seem like these should be tighter. Any input would be appreciated.

Hey Frank, I went to about 80nm but the crank was really stiff to turn. Now I'm use engine assembly lube cause the motor will probably sit around for a while after rebuild. Is it normal for the crank to be stiffer to turn when using engine lube?

Nah just the old ones. The clearances were good on the dry fit so thinking its the engine lube but I would say its a bit more than a slight drag.

hmm, you might spin a shell if they,re too tight mate, i would tighten each cap of the girdle 1 at a time, to see if its just the 1 journal

The manual says 25-30nm,then 60-65 degrees clockwise with angle wrench.
It is mentioned that it is very important not-to tighten them with toque, but to degrees.
