Tyre Pressures

Sun 16 Dec 2012 10:41:03 PM
I just did a tyre depth check and it seems my fronts are running under inflated despite I keep them at the recommended 33psi. Any one else had this issue and found the right psi for the fronts on a 1.3?

I had a 1 litre super and I found it was best to run the tyres a bit harder , tended towards the fully loaded pressures as I found they also wore like they were under inflated , even with my present car I have found the same and again I am using the fully loaded pressures .

at least 36 id put in them. i run most cars at 40psi but micra being so light at least 36. even if you kept it 32 in the rear if you dont carry passengers/cargo very often.

40psi is to high for most vehicles.

Here is a guide.

Smaller cars Micra, Swift etc. 34-36psi
Medium cars Commodore, falcons etc. 36-38psi
4WD's sit good at around 40psi

Trailer tyres and light truck tyres at the Recommended PSI anywhere from 40-65psi.

This is the pressures we set them at when the leave Bridgestone.

Thanks all, I have pumped them up to 35psi at the moment but I think I may add a little more. The rears seem fine and wearing even its just the fronts. Cheers :-)

I worked for a tyre service for a while so I'll back up sikK11's little guide. I personally run the same pressures as RTK cause I reckon a couple more psi for low profile tyres.

I also check for total-toe wear, this will show up as wear on both inner OR outer edges, and is the only easily adjusted part on a micra during a wheel alignment. steering wheel off center doesnt mean the total toe is necessarily wrong, if tyres are wearing even just remove and re-center the steering wheel yourself

tyre wear inner or outer on just one side is either a castor and/or camber problem. I would steer clear of tyre shops and use a front end specialist to do the adjustment and will require the purchase/fitting of camber bolts, castor kits, etc

I changed springs a few years back and have gone through a few tyres, I dont rotate my tyres, I have never wheel aligned it, the tyres wear fine, I dont fix wat aint broke

I am loathed to let anyone touch my steering, I am lucky to have steering that if you let go on a good road will stay straight, the steering wheel is straight to. I have wear on both outer edges of the front tyres, not bad like a tracking wear just the outsides are .5 mm lower than the center. I will run them at the top psi setting for a while and see how they wear.

Cheers.
