Smashed windshield

Is it possible a smashed windshield is caused by running with an unlocked hatch??

unlikely ive driven around with my hatch opened many times, i guess if you were to go over large bumps quite fast like a speed bump it could open enough to break it but it would probably just lock it shut

i was running 70-80 kph, I was carrying though 7 20liter water bottles at the back, with the hatch unlocked...poof! the windshield which was a tempered glass fell on me and all over the place...haven't seen anything that hit me from the front end or the sides :-(...a stone maybe from oncoming vehicles...but that remains a mystery.

have it replaced with laminated glass though...thanks.
