fuel light always on

Wed 24 Oct 2012 04:55:43 PM
so ive had issues with the fuel light always being on when i changed my fuel tank i thought i might of fixed it but no, the fuel gauge still works fine its just the light is always on

ive got another float/ sender unit sitting here that i could replace the existing 1 i just swapped over the whole lot out of the my old tank to the new 1, pump, sender etc.

is there anything else i should check before pulling out the pump & replacing the sender that might cause this issue?

the moisture type low fuel sensor is directly wired to the dash light.

try unplugging the fuel sender plug on top of the fuel tank whilst IGN on and if the lamp turns off the sensor is stuck on.

yea it turned off when i unplugged it. so yeah i assumed that it was that.

i swapped out the float & sender but still the light is on...

unless the spare sender i had was dodgy id say my issue lie's at the cluster end

Its a very simple circuit. That light only comes on when the sensor completes the circuit n send 12v to the lamp.

I'd test the moisture sensors while they're out the tank by comparing its resistance reading between a dry sensor and when its submerged in tiny pot of fuel. If the readings don't change the sensor is duff
