non I/C woohoomobile, and around 5 psi i guess, with a C/R of 10.5:1, the 3 kg flywheel and QG injectors.
the goal is to match the acceleration of an SR20 K11 between 2k and 6K rpm, with a stock ecu (and to try it out on my misses,s 1.0 too :) )

we tested it out on the 11.5:1 c/r engine (very very gingerly) very loud chatter !
http://www.youtube.com/user/aelknarf?feature=mhee
and it pulled well for such a low rpm and spark retard :)
the drain into the crankcase breather will only work on a topmout turbo, it flooded with oil and i had to fit a sump spout
and the 10.5:1 engine is nearly ready to rock :)

spent £45 now lol (pipes from our local asian scrapyard) and i have to include the £20 QG injectors and CGA rail really, so even a boost gauge would break the budget ! (gonna have to run without one)
gotta select the right strength of piggyback actuator spring now, for the desired 5 psi

thanks rudy :)
the spring inside the actuator pushes the rod totol, and the extra spring pulls against that inner spring
so that reduces the pressure holding the wastegate shut (and reduces the boost)
i,ve had to block the boost control pipe too, to reduce the boost even lower (i,m currently running @ about 1 psi lol)
http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=2cnb7eo&s=5
gotta try some bigger injectors next :) tho this maf rubber collar/reducer increases fueling somewhat

my timeslips will be more telling lodo, i have lost faith in the accuracy/legitamacy of dyno,s tbh
been tinkering with some different bosch topfeed injectors
1.0/1.4 CGA blue ones are the 164cc 0280155942
1.5/1.8 QG red ones are the 211cc 0280155940
2.0 SR (coilpack 00 - 02) grey ones are the 292cc 0280155798
and the SR20 ones are giving some nice a/f/r,s :)
here,s the gauge showing the stock ecu trying to closeloop @ idle (a tad lean if anything)

Re: my ghetto $100 turbo build :)

and we dropped the fuel pressure to nearly 2 bar with the 292cc SR injectors, and the fueling was exactly the same as with the 211cc QG injectors when set to the stock 3 bar (closed looping perfectly @ idle and cruise, and off the scale rich @ wot)
so i just need to rig up this oldschool mini vacuum advance mech for a proper rising rate f/p/r

dunno rudy, it had the same divit on the other side of the seat, and 2 divits on the valve seat too.
i usually test my compressions down our hill in 3rd gear (my tester wont reach down the plugholes lol) and there were only 3 chugs and a gap :o
turning the crankpulley with a socket, and the cam cover removed confirmed cyl #1 had very little compression.
i think the injectors batch fire on startup btw

probs $200 now lol, but a lot of it has gone on R & D really eh.
the main objective really is to DIY the build and to avoid a costly remap or standalone ecu.
i had fitted a 3mm pipe to induce a manifold leak so that the maf was only sensing 1/2 the air entering the engine @ idle (and fueling it to suit) and as the throttle was opened the leak/vacuum diminished and the fueling increased to suit.
it worked ok but was pretty crude tbh, but that austin mini vacuum mech has a pull of about 5kg, so when coupled to the stock fuel reg, we should be able to double the fuel pressure to 3.5 bar as soon as that boost gauge hits positive pressure

Have you got more info on how the mini vacuum will work, I understand that it'l increase fuel pressure under boost, presumably by exagerating the mani pressure when positive/under boost, but not sure how it fits on to the fpr in order to work. (from googling it looks like it advances the timing in a mini.)

My plan to try first was a cheap 1:1 fpr, oversized injectors, and a pipe bypassing the throttle body to increase air. Just sounds a little too crude.
But keeping economy and mpg at low revs is pretty important to my build.

Also, when are you going to be back up and running? :)

Re: my ghetto $100 turbo build :)

aye, the mini vacuum mech retards the timing as you hit the throttle and lose the intake vacuum eh matt (and twists/rotates the dizzy baseplate)
so i need to cut a slit down the CGA f/p/r and fit a rod under the spring, so the mech will pull upwards against the spring @ low throttle.
my gauge reads 20 inches @ cruise (about 1/2 bar vacuum i believe) so i need at least 1/2 the fuel pressure for those 2 x bigger SR injectors eh.
a proper rising rate f/p/r would be ideal (4 or 6: 1 ratio) but experimenting is all part of the fun tho eh :)

i could,nt open the wastegate without the help of pliers, and the styrup pump showed 20psi as it opened !
a bit less preload and an extra spring over the shaft has brought that down to 10psi now :)
and the SR20 injectors have behaved very well over this last week (same mpg, open and closed looping as it should etc)

Thanks for the illustration about the mini vacuum, think I understand what your doing now, still seems a little excessive, any thought's about a turbo diesel boost compensator(if thats even possible)?

if you mean the vacuum controlled actuator matt ? some diesels use the brake vacuum pump and reservoir to control the boost (via the ecu) so you only have to fit the pressure controlled actuator instead eh (the rod pushes out instead of pulling in) and reverse the arm too eh :)
fitted a spare oil pressure switch to the head oil gallery today, oil light goes out in miliseconds as usual (there goes another myth :d )

No I don't think that's what I meant, I was reading up on what people do when turboing a n/a diesel, and instead of using an aftermarket rising rate FPR, or that brake pump system thingy that i think is on modern TDIs, they fit a 'boost compensator', which adjusts the fuel pressure to suit the boost. Seems like an elaborately designed and more boost suitable FPR.
http://www.toyotadiesel.com/phpBB2/files/detail_1.jpg
Although on second thoughts diesels wouldn't be able to use a regular fpr, so it could be nonsense lol.

i think thats for the old (pre-commonrail) injector pump matt ? so that it delivers extra fuel during boost (rather than solely via the throttle cable eh)

Ah ok, so it's nothing to do with an end rail fpr, can skip past that idea then eh, be more hassle than it worth. How's the mini vacuum device coming along, you onto a winner?

got the fueling as close as i can now with this rrprv :)
we,ve got a helper spring on the diaphram rod (so about 2 x stronger push now)
and the larger/softer spring gives the 20psi base pressure @ low throttle (while the rod is retracted, till about 1/3 a bar of inlet vacuum)
its set so that above the 1/3 a bar vacuum the rod is pressing down on the stock diaphram and delivering 45psi of fuel pressure, and in theory any positive pressure/boost is increasing that further still

tried to vid a rolling start 1st gear from 2k, but switched the camera on a tad late tho :( (but if you pause the vid and wind back to 0, it shows 2k and zero boost)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBlRV355RgM&feature=youtu.be
was trying to show the response, and steady boost level (the red needle shoots to the same spot inbetween 0 and 10psi whenever full throttled eh)
well, its nearer 1/2 throttle tbh, (had to fit a bumpstop) because its still leaning out @ wot, even with 292cc injectors and 45psi fuel pressure ! and its a thirsty bastard when booted too lol

yes matt, it did cross my mind that more flow would help, and i,ve never changed a fuel filter either lol.
i,ll fit the ebay fuel reg back on and try a flowtest asap, but i want to try the 260/10mm inlet cam first :)

I'd personally sort the fueling out first, then fit the cam, cams wildly effect the powerband on turbos don't they(?) Don't want to find out you'd have been better on stock cams :o Suppose it doesn't take long to swap em out for you. I wonder what a 1.0 exhaust cam would be like.

too late matt, the cam is in lol :)
i tested the flow and it seems fine
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4a0UycSTlEE&feature=youtu.be
it still flowed as mad when i ragged it in 1st and 2nd a couple of times (the can was full by then lol :o)
our pumps flow about 90L/hr i think, which should be more than enough imo.
and i doubt if i,m sacrificing much in the way of hp with only 1/2 throttle tbh (would be different for an N/A screamer eh)

got the rising rate fuel reg working spot-on now :) 30 psi rising to 60 psi under boost, which is allowing full throttle at last !
and the 260/10mm inlet cam is definite win
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZdMlb6y1Hs&feature=youtu.be
so..........the conclusion is that you CAN ghetto build a CG+T, and have SR20 grunt from 2k rpm, and for a very low cost if you diy.
gonna go back to a more insurance friendly N/A soon (till 1/4 mile season), and start the next project

Do you think an ebay RRFPR should be ok?i haven't the same scrapyard as yours lol!Minis (and all "good" or "sport"cars) good to scrap there usually pass by saturday night fever and finish on sunday morning fire lol.The week-end's thieves sad stories!

95% of reg,s listed as rising rate are really fixed rate ones totol, that ebay RR one in the vid shows a differential of only about 7psi between idle and wot (so i only used it in the fuel feed line to test the ghetto one out).
you need at least 2:1 differential in fuel pressure to counter the over-rich idle/low throttle, and the leaning out @ wot.
which means you need a RRFPR with about 4:1 to 6:1 ratio (depending on what boost you,re running)
we,ve been running this setup this week, with 1.3 pistons SR20 t/b and 2 headgaskets, and more boost :D these CG,s are VERY strong.
i would,nt use any bigger than a GT15 personally, here,s how small the exhaust gasses are confined to tho :O smaller than my little waving pinky finger !

did some hooning at work this week :) http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=wkfprl&s=5
and fitted a knock sensor to the (apparently weaker) cyl # 3
gonna fit a micraphone to it too, and then see where the det kicks in, and probably try a ghetto water injection to eliminate it
its had a proper ragging so far, but because the little GT15 basically turns into a heatpump @ anything over 5k-ish (not helped by the lack of intercooler) i,ve only really used WOT @ 2k to 5k tbh
i guess i could gain another 30hp @ full chat, but with this 260/10 inlet cam retarded about 20deg, i would probably lose some of this daily driver midrange punch

no, all stock mate
we pressed my old (volvo iirc) 5th injector back into service today, mounted into the front face of the mani for even distribution, off the scale rich @ wot now, even with full boost :)
gonna re-try the 211cc QG injectors next, for a comparison

imperial measurements eh mick !
the duration is often classed from 50" thou lift i believe, so 268 deg exh, and 254 deg inlet ? and .4" lift (10mm)

Yes I thought you would like that :)

I have read that is the 'standard' of sorts. Which seems to be an american/uk thing.

I have had a few sets of cams for micra's before.
Tomei 256 - over-rated for the price
Mulholland 272 - awesome cam on stock intake
and these ones (which are 'said' to be 296/280, which is taken from peak open, not at full lift) - basically could not get it to run stable at all on stock ignition/fuelling, that was a while back, I will test it out again sometime.

Attached is a comparo of stock and a/m exh cams

jeeez, those are monster lobes mick ! the valves are held fully open for ages eh.
it just goes to show how there are "durations and durations"
they have included the 16" thou valvelash in the readings which adds to the confusion eh.
some cam companies would class them as 270 deg inl and 286 deg exh @1mm lift and zero lash, and many measure from 0 lift and 0 lash (which would make them close to 400 deg lol)

april 1st is the next 1/4 mile mate, so i,ve been fitting the bike communication microphone to the knock sensor today (gonna monitor the milivolts and sound while i induce some DET to find the limits)
and the 5th injector had allowed me to drop the fuelreg pressure (which has given back the bike-like throttle responce, and 2 k spool-up :) )

Re: my ghetto $100 turbo build :)

None what so ever I'm afraid. I am currently in the process of running simulations to see what the limits are for camshaft profiles on the CG cylinder heads.

We are somewhat limited by the 30mm follower sizes on what can be achieved using available off the shelf valve springs. The standard valve train is prone to the risk of valve bounce and hits an early limit on duration and lift due to having a shim over bucket design.

Larger followers aren't much of an option due to the head configuration, so it's a challenge. I guess someone must have made them work though but to what extent I cannot say.

A 296/280 combination will be pretty hard core in terms of rpm and I have no idea what the CG13 cranks are good for either for that matter to support 'sustained' high rpm use.
