Need Help with my EMS 4860

Hello guys, i have bought a ems 4860, but i have a problem. I get no signal of the sensor in the dizzy. Can anybody tell me how i must connet the dizzy with the wiring loom. I think there is the mistake.

k11,s have an oddball optical sensor eh oliver, you maybe need an aftermarket crank sensor ?

I had, closed the hole in the disc like evade. and i have another question. Did anybody know something about the resistor within the cable to the coil?

GermanMicra: I've got a 6860 and while I did this diagram a long time ago, I still haven't installed the ECU in my car. I have no idea if the diagrams works but from examining the wiring looms this is what I came up with.

I found that the wire colours are different for UK/JDM micras but this diagram is based on the UK wiring colours. The image is based on the wiring pinouts from this PDF:

The only difference between the 4860/6860/8860 is that the 4/6/8 refers to how many cylinders it can run injectors for sequentially I think. I got mine thinking I'd future proof myself in case I sold up everything and went to something with 6 cylinders ;)

That said, I have another diagram that is unfinished that uses the IGBT ignitor module which I do have and intend to use. If you'd like to see those I'll post them up as well. I've got 4x Bosch coils which I'll be using with the IGBT module.

I don't know anything about the resister within the cable to the coil you've mentioned though.

Hello deNs. what do you mean with igbt ingnitor modul. can i get a pic or an adress. and is the diagram for the march ignition or for the igbt modul.

It's my understanding that the IGBT ignitor module is used if you want to drive external coils from your EMS ECU. You use whatever trigger you have (I was going to use the dizzy optical sensor as you were) and the signal is sent to the ECU where the timing is worked out and the signal is sent to the ignitor.

The diagram is unfinished, and is without the IGBT module. To reiterate, the diagram is completely untested and may have errors in it.

It were great if you can upload the diagramm with the IGBT module.
But the short cables of the TPS and the dizzy, is there only 12V from the battery?

Do you mean the CGA3 and so on? Then i need the 4 coilpacks of the CGA3 the IGBT module and the signal of the optical sensor. Is this right?
Can anybody tell me if i need the ballast resistor, for the setup with the EMS?

yes mate, post 2000, i have a set if needed, and i guess the ballast resistor just boosts the spark when cranking ? (like the k10 ballast resistor)
but i dont know if the oddball 4 slit optical sensor will feed your ecu tho (you may need a 360 deg crank sensor eh ?)

I don´t know if it run´s with the optical sensor. Another way were the crank sensor of the CGA3, but then i need the flywheel and the gearbox to.
If i understand you right, the engine should run without the ballast resistor, or is it wrong?

if its a 9 volt coil (and ballasted to 12v when cranking) then it will overheat if ran at 12v continous eh
but if you are going to be running coilpacks then i guess you dont need the ballast resistor ?
the 36 slot GA dizzy might be an option, or else an aftermarket crank sensor (the ones that you fit to the crank pulley)
and i think fitting a (g/box mounted flywheel triggered) CGA crank sensor would be a mission oliver :o

So guys, i need your help. can anybody tell me something about the optical sensor in the dizzy? is it only a optical or a hall sensor? Or which sensor can i use?

The One in our upgraded dizzy is one from a Mitsubishi mirage.

I believe it's only an optical sensor and with blocking off the hole like you mentioned that you did earlier, you're still not getting a signal from it? I'm pretty sure aaron (evade) ran it like that when he initially set his EMS Stinger ECU and he then later got a custom-made disc made up with lots of little slots cut in it instead of those 4x larger slots. That's what I intend to do also.

Frank: That kit is prohibitively expensive especially considering it'll very likely need to be modified to fit and if he can use the stock sensor then as I understand it there's little need to look into hall effect sensor setups such as that unless you're after additional accuracy (which i'm not opposed to).

@ deNs I hope i find the problem. I would try to drive with the k11 sensor. I think i have a mistake in the cable from ecu to dizzy. I have connect it for a hall sensor but I would try to connect it for a optical sensor. Yesterday i have find a diagramm for the connection of a optical sensor.

This is the diagram to connect the optical sensor. But why need i the two resistors? And can i drive this with the k11 ignition system?

That might not necessarily be the same optical sensor as the one we have in our cars. That's a document from the EMS site, isn't it? There's a few different types of distributors used in K11's (Bosch, Mitsubishi and others) and undoubtedly there will be subtle differences between each of them which makes it a bit more difficult.

Since the resistors are on the 12V line, my guess is that it's stepping the voltage down to whatever is required to power the optical sensor.



Care to elaborate on that? Did you do the work yourself? Pictures?

Hey gmates i have some new questions. :) deNs has posted an image of the engine wiring. Does anybody know the connections of the dizzy and coil.

a fiat setup would be easy to adapt oliver :)
