fuel pump location, replacing and sourcing to buy help please

Tue 28 Dec 2010 10:31:37 PM
hi guys,

Just driving my car yesterday (1996 1.3L micra) and it dies. Started it up an hour later, starts well but only gives me 10 seconds worth of running then dies. Ive stuck fuel directly into the engine and it runs so it must be the fuel pump. Could it be anything else?

May I please ask as to how to remove and replace the fuel pump in the fuel tank?

And also BIG HELP! if anyone has a BRAND NEW (I dont stick used moving or electrical parts onto my car) that they want to get rid of for good cash I would be willing to buy a new pump from them or other than that, does a coventrys, repco etc regularly stock a fuel pump in stores? Im in Perth, Western Australia.

Thanks for help in advance, you guys have helped me with my other problems so I know that your all legit.

Thanks

Stephen

Send a PM to this guy (link below) and he might be able to sort you out with a new pump. He sells new bits and pieces for the K11 in his spare time ;)

thanks guys, im tracking down one in the coventrys group for $137 but its pretty hard getting one since im in Perth WA and I need my car badly so ive become desperate. Apparently Ive just called round and theyre shifting one from a country store location to a city store location for me and i can get one today, if it falls through then I will seek out the advice listed by other members above. But like I said, I cant wait too long for this part....

Thankyou for everyones help guys

maybe try and source a new R33 one, i bet they are more common :)
or try something from say a VL commondore, they use an RB30 engine, similar to the skylines. No idea if the fuel pumps are the same, but worth a look as they will be common as hell

I was going to say holy crap, now I cant even trust coventrys, the one they sold me was a goss fuel pump, way too small and also not even right as there is not even an outlet for fuel to run back into the engine. I was looking at it like "what the hell? did they even look this up?" I called them back and they told me they were right and it would definitely fit my car, problem is, I cant even install it right because none of the electrical plugs fit and as I stated earlier, theres nowhere on the pump to send fuel back to the engine.

I may take the old one back and get them to source one that may be similar, but then again I dont know if skyline pumps are that common as they are an import and for some reason parts manufacturers dont like imports.

I'll let you know what happens. One more shout out, anyone in Perth have a fuel pump for a k11 micra?

Whats coventrys store you dealing with? Also whats the part number on the pump they supplied? They would have gone by the goss book. There are two types and the 96 should be the smaller 38mm pump like the photo included. Sounds like you have a 51mm pump which should not be in a 96 model as there S2 but if that's the case the coventrys would not have one to suit.

yes that is what has happened frank2 and micra_king. I have a larger fuel pump that came out of my car and was supplied with a smaller one. I would love to know why suppliers are now supplying a totally smaller fuel pump as to what originally came with the car, but for me, the plastic housing that fits around the original is correct like its supposed to be there.

If the smaller fuel pump is SUPPOSED to be put into the car, how am I supposed to hook it up? It doesnt even look like its compatible with the car or would pump enough fuel to the engine, not even mentioning that its too small for the plastic housing and would just be rattling around in the fuel tank when I do put it in.

Please someone help

Id just like to mention that even though my car is made in January 1996, the previous model ended in December 1995 and I may have certain parts from the previous model which will end up in my car. The fuel pump I need is definitely a 51mm fuel pump and not the smaller 31mm pump as everyone else has. The pity is that I cant find one anywhere and may have to get one sent over from england in order to make my car run again.

No the smaller pump is not ment to fit the 51mm housing. Its just as far as Goss knows all 96 models are S2 and have the smaller pump where yours did not. You have to find a 51mm pump now. Whats the build date of your car? The compliance plate may say 96 but thats not the build date and you might just have a S1 micra.
My car is a 97 on The compliance plate and rego but the build date is late 96.

Also I find a lot of pumps are the same from diff cars so matching up the pump is somthing to try. If you have a clear photo of the 51mm I can see if I can match one up for you. Or take the old one into covs and ask them to match one up.

as previously said, the R33 skyline pump is a 51mm so will drop straight in if you can find one :)
