Agreed, but at least the K12 was unique - this looks too much like a Yaris I reckon, especially the rear.

Fat offset wheels, dumped and with a CG13DE+T it would be awesome :) Any more details on when it's coming and/or where it's going to be made?

Are they actually calling it the K13 or something else?

it looks nice, actually looks good enough that i would definitely consider buying one, would need all the sports options and a new zorst plus black paint for me to feel manly in it though.

from http://www.goauto.com.au/mellor/mellor.nsf/story2/EB483A8F108B7D3CCA2576DA007D6AAB ...

It will first go on sale in March in Thailand, which will supply Australia’s Micra, and will also be produced in Mexico, China and India, which is expected to supply European markets from May.

That means the new Micra should offer better value than the current Micra (available here only in 1.4-litre automatic guise for $15,990), which is produced in the UK.

and

The Micra will also become available with a direct-injection supercharged version of the new 1,2-litre triple, fitted with an automatic idle-stop system as standard in Europe. The latter is said to reduce CO2 emissions by six per cent to just 95g/km, but the blown 1.2 still delivers up to 72kW and 142Nm.

and

European models will come standard with ABS, ESP electronic stability control, twin front and side curtain airbags, and seatbelt pretensioners.

Looks fun!

Uhh Gary, since when are the K12's that are here coming from the UK? I thought they were from Japan since half the reason the K11's were so expensive was because they had to be shipped from the other side of the world!

These design queues appear to derive from the K11 rather than the K12 (a good thing). To me this is what the K12 should have looked like (a more natural progression/evolution). If that were the case then the K13 would look more modern and 'edgy'—more in line with the evolution of the VW Polo for example.

i think they have taken a step back... it almost looks similar styling to a N16 pulsar (wagonish type thingo) around the top of the tail gate etc...

its almost like this was ment to be the k12 but they pushed the design futher.

it took me a while to warm up to the k12 (prob since its only 4 door and manual in oz... BAH!) but i dont think i could grow to like this... as said it looks too much like alot of other hatchs on the market now.

A much needed improvement and The shape has potential for mods. I think a nice body kit could be made to toughen it up a bit. But until they start releasing a manual option they'll miss out on the young male market completely. Auto = boring.

True I would have gotten a K12 if it came in a manual even though I really really REALLY hate the headlights on the K12.
Littlebear I kinda agree with your comments about how parts of it looks like an evolution of the K11. Would I buy one? well yes I might But it will depend on what specs it ends up with and price. Whatever car I next buy I will be keeping my K11 micra as I have had it for so long I cant see myself without it even if I don't use it much.

I actually like it. Shares similar lines to the K11, but also looks very Fiat Punto'ish front and rear.

I foresee a few K11's going on the market to upgrade to a 1.2 supercharged micra! or people trying to shoehorn the donk into a K11.

"or people trying to shoehorn the donk into a K11."

Yeah that's not going to happen anytime soon. I'd say it's likely to be so unlike the CG13 in the way it mounts to the chassis that people are likely to just look at the complexity of it, then just go and dump a GA16 or SR20 in it instead :P

SR20 into the K13 however...

I wonder if they'll continue the March Cup with these, replacing the K12's. I'd love to see what a few race prepped ones of these would look like!

Re: K13 photos

That curve in the hatch below the glass is all K12, and so is the curve in the top of the rear doors. I can see far more of the K12 in the front than K11.
Yes the rear also resembles the Vitz/Yaris, especially the too high for it's width look. But at least its not so dreadfully ugly as the back end of the K12, it could be a girlfriend you wouldn't be so embarrassed about appearing in public with.
Side on the front overhang is too big, and the bonnet is a bit high. It looks like somebody's photoshoped the front making it bigger than it should be. On the up side, there must be plenty of room under there for a big engine. The 150kW QR25DE out of the US sentra would do, it's the best performance 4cyl that nissan still make. For those who want to resurrect the past, I'm sure the SR20 would fit as it fits easily into the K12.
Move to NZ, UK or Japan if you want a manual K12, or 2 door. Yes the Oz K12 come from Japan, not UK.
As far as the new superturbo motor and any bolt together interchangeability with CG13 go, the K12 has a cable select gearbox, I'd suspect that this new car is the same. Such a major departure from every other front drive nissan isn't a great sign for interchangeability.
As the new 1.2 is supposed to be the HR12DE, the 81kW HR15DE & HR16DE would probably bolt in it's place. I'd suspect it will come with these motors as standard before long, as the K12 does in Japan/UK. A 72kW blown 1.2 sounds like some sort of fuel economy motor with those existing cheaper higher power motors more likely being the sport option.
As for the platform name, I don't think it's K13, more likely V10 if it's going to follow the usual convention.
More information should be available in a couple of days, following it's unveiling at the Geneva motor show.

The blown motors 95g/km is better than the micro sized Toyota iQ (99g/km for 5spd). This is truely a frugal motor. Who needs a hybrid?
The standard HR12DE puts out 115g/km.

I actually like this, I reckon it is more like the K11 than the K12 I have owned both). You cannot expect it to be even remotely the same as the K11, after all, 15 years is a long time. The K12 came out of Japan, not England like the K11, although I feel that had the K12 been built in the UK it wouldn't be so tinny. Who knows. I still have the Swift Sport, I sold the K12 my son bought me after not a lot of deliberation (no brainer, no contest). The K11 lives on very happily in Cessnock, my brother bought it off me 3 years ago, she isn't quite the same as when I had it, developing a mania for attracting skippys has done her no good at all. Apart from the usual tyres, battery and wiper blades, the ONLY thing replaced is the clutch. Not bad for 15 years and over 200,000 klms huh. Phenomenal little beast!

Will be interesting to see price and build quality, Nissan do some strange things in this department. In 1995 my K11 was $24,000 on the road brand new, in 2009 the K12 was $18,000 on the road brand new, so I am tipping somewhere in between.

Re: K13 photos

Sun 07 Mar 2010 04:24:09 PM
Well the main reason they say behind building them in country's with cheap labor is to bring it to market at a cheap price. I would hope a base model would be $14,990 since it is competing with other cheap small cars. The fact it is been made in country's such as India, china and Thailand means Nissan cant justify a higher price though they might try it on. One only has to look at the Suzuki alto, They first claimed they would bring it to market for under $12k drive away yet tryed it on and asked $13,990 hoping the success of cars like the swift would rub off on it but they failed and have had to lower the price to sell them. I don't have any issues where cars are made but they have to then sell the cars for less then if they where made in japan or Europe. Its like the Great Wall brand, They sell really cheap and reflect where there made but if Holden or ford brought the company and then sold them as there own would you pay an extra 10K for them....No you would not. I am glad our micras will come from Thailand as they seem to build cars ok.

They had this in the paper a few weeks ago saying that this will replace the Tiida in Australia.

"are they doing a turbo model?"

In Europe, the Micra launch car gets a 59kW/108Nm 1.2-litre three cylinder engine with a continuously variable transmission or five-speed manual. A 72kW/142Nm 1.2-litre supercharged and direct injection version.

Price and specs now out.
For the Australian market, two engine choices will be on offer.
A naturally-aspirated 1.2 litre three-cylinder petrol engine developing 60kW and 108Nm of torque will form the entry-level engine, listing fuel consumption figures of 5.9 l/100km and an emissions rating of 138g/km.
The second engine is a 1.5 litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 75kW, with fuel consumption listed at 6.6 l/100km in manual form and 6.6 l/100km in automatic form.
A five-speed manual transmission is standard, with Nissan's new Continuously Variable Transmission also available.

2011 Nissan Micra Rec. Retail Prices

* ST 1.2 litre Manual: $12,990 Automatic: $14,990
* ST-L 1.5 litre Manual: $14,990 Automatic: $16,990
* Ti 1.5 litre Manual: $16,990 Automatic: $18,990
