spare parts

I dont have a micra yet, but this will be my next car. just wondering, are there many spare parts available. Because I made some inquiry at a leading engine reconditioner here in melbourne if the reconditioned engine for micra is available. the response was, its hard to get the piston, so i might as well go for a second hand engine from wreckers and alike....hoping someone can clear this to me....thanks
