should I take these probs serious on my micra?

Fri 18 Apr 2008 08:03:55 AM
my '95 micra, since when I bought it around 6 months ago when running the timing chain can be heared I don't think it's snapped I believe it may be a little loose or something but it makes a little noise when the car is running..my mechanic heard it & said he can change it but I can keep driving on it & I shouldn't harm the engine.

Also my hand brake has lost it's strength, Can I tighten it or something? a friend of mine said I may have a leak. I had the hand brake signal light up while the handbrake was not up I changed the hydraulic brake oil & the signal went off again, now around 2 months after it lit up again, I'll top it up again. are these serious issues?

Lastly also since when I bought it , once I start the micra & drive off slowly when the engine is not revving & especially when I turn a corner I hear like loose bar or something from beneath. it sounds when I turn the car & obviously when the engine is not making noise , it's like some pipe or bar is loose espeically from the sound I can predict that there's something that reuqires tightening up.

any ideas about these issues guys?

Cheers & keep up your tidy rides!

are the old rear swaybar drop links.... if from the front? have a look underneath and shake a few things and see what squeaks... check the strut tops they can come/wear loose too

Is the "loose bar" noise more like a clicking sound? do you only get it when you are turning? If so it might be worn CV (constant velocity joints) on the front wheel drive.
