Sun 20 Jan 2008 03:35:08 PM
hello there, just wondering if anyone would know how you could raise the factory rev limit on a stock micra computer? is it possible without a chip/ ep rom?

hi, i have seen after market rev limit controlers used with standard computers before, i have a evo2 rally car when we bought the car had a bee-r rev limit controller with the standard computer, the car was from japan so i am guessing it was done over there

yeh, i have heard of the bee*r rev limit controller, but was under the impression that it was only used to shoot flames/wank factor... ? can you confirm that you can raise the limit? if you can, i'll definately get one...

yeh you are right i remember when i had it on my car you could not put the limiter higher than stock, it cuts off the spark at rev limit insted of the fuel which gives you the flame, sorry i thought you could raise it dont know what else you could do but chip or change the computer

why would you want to raise the rev limit anyway?
power starts dropping off well before the factory limiter, so there is no point in reving the poor engine any harder.
the only time that i would think that you would want to raise the rev limiter is if you increased the volumetric efficiency of the engine- head work, bigger cams, increased compression ratio or possibly boost, and then you would want stronger valve springs and other internals if your to rev it much higher.
if you are going to spend the money to do all/some of these to benefit from reving the engine higher(to make more power) then i suppose an aftermarket engine managment system should be within your budget.

you reckon!? dah. thanks for your input, i know it would be a waste of time raising the rev limit on a totally stock motor.... but, i never said the motor was stock. i've got an emanage to tune the car, but... with that computer, you can't change the rev limit. i love the emanage. i think its a great computer, and if i could, i'd use it on my red car, but i can't,... its to far gone :) but on the daily driver i just don't see the point spending an extra thousand dollars or so on a full aftermarket computer just to change the limit, when the emanage can do everything else so well. i thought someone might know some dodgy way of raising the limit... might just have to get a stock computer from japan with the limit raised... keep the suggestions coming but....

the factory rev limit is a limit set in the factory computer. it is what stops the engine reving past a certain rpm... i think its set to about 6700rpm in the micra. you cannot rev it past that limit untill you change the limit in the computer or do away with the stock computer altogether.

as mentioned it is possible to "hide" the revs from the ecu by blocking a cutout in the dizzy...if you dismantle it theres a metal disc with two openings, its one of those you need to block up or get a replacement made with just the one cutout... (at least thats how i believe its done)

ive never tried this, but have read/heard it works...how long it works will depend on how you drive the car, as they'll be no cut off so id reckon blowing the engine would then become very easy.

install a daughter board in the computer & this can be done.
EVLGTI had this on another nissan with the same computer architecture.
The Nismo version of the CG13 rev'd to 7500rpm with some different cams.
I think the CGA3DE in the Alpha spec cube also revs higher, max power 101PS @ 6400rpm.

interesting... so in theory.. i could get rid of the factory limiter all together with this... and then possibly install the bee-r rev limiter to set my own!?

i believe so yes...i had even thought about doing this myself though by altering the position of the opening on the disc (making a replacement) to move the limit higher up the rev range, would take some working out mind and i wouldnt want to use my engine for the research incase i killed it.

though the ideal solution is as mentioned, would be a stock ecu remap.
