AUTO GEAR BOX...HELP!

My 1997 MICRA SLX Auto gear box is on its way out, my local dealer has told me it will cost $4000 bucks to put a new one in...because its an auto and they don't make them any more..is this bullshit?
does any one now of a specialist Micra garage in Vic/Melbourne?

How many km on the box? And what exactly is it doing?

There's a few UK members who know what they're doing with the CVT box and they might be able to help you troubleshoot exactly what is going wrong.

In the mean time I do suggest you start calling wreckers and lining yourself up a second hand (hopefully lower KM) CVT replacement gearbox. There are a few CVT repair specalists around australia but it might take a bit of calling around to find them.

To answer your question about workshops in the melbourne area, quite a few site members have reported excellent service from Errol at www.datrats.com.au. He is a nissan/datsun specialist and may be able to help.

Throw the auto box away and install a manual.Manual gearboxes last forever. Errol at Datrats sorted it out for a lady in Melbourne who went this way and works out hundreds of dollars not thousands.
